Use this ORGANIZATION SHEET to help gather information about how you will use different resources in class to support you learning.

1. Late Credit and Student Self Pacing

Pacing will be outlined by your teacher but ultimately determined by you.  
  1. Assignments will include checkpoints so you know when assignments should be turned in for full credit. 
  2. Additional practice will be able to turn in after the checkpoints for a maximum of 80% credit.
  3. Late assignments will be recorded as a zero until then. 
  4. Some units will go quickly and others will take more time.
  5. It is important is that you master the content and can demonstrate this mastery to yourself and to others.

2. Classroom Binder
Will be checked first week.

  1. ​Students will maintain all practice, notes, labs and other in their lab binder with teacher support.   
  2. If you need help ask an organized student or adult for ideas. 

PRACTICE:  Come to class with binder ready to use and share with your peers and/or teacher EVERYDAY.

3. 2 Column Notes, Cornell Style!

  1. Cornell Notes are a tool used to take effective notes during tutorials, mini-lesson and lectures that you will later use to review and summarize new material for higher levels of retention and understanding. 
  2. Notes should be kept in your Class Notebook and can be used during mastery checks.  


PRACTICE:  Watch the video on how to take Cornell Notes and TAKE YOUR OWN NOTES while watching this tutorial.  All notes taken in class will be required to be in this format and maintained in your class notebook.

4. Classroom Norms: Reflect on 5

Classroom norms are a set of guiding principles that will help our community of learners. We will need a little practice with them to best implement.
  1. Use one page in your classroom binder to think and reflect on 5 of the classroom norms. 
  2. Pick any classroom norm and write a 3-5 sentence reflection on what that means to you or complete a thoughtful Y-chart. You will repeat this 5 times during the week. 
  3. Share with your elbow partner and make any changes or additions.
  4. Be ready to share your ideas in a quick classroom discussion.
  5. We will repeat this exercise for 5 days. If you are absent you will need to complete on your own. 

5.  Online Grade Review

After the first week of each quarter you should 
  • Check your grades online every other day at minimum. 
  • Share your login information with your family.
  • If you see a mistake please email or talk to your teacher. 

PRACTICE:  Log into your Power School grade portal three days a week for three weeks.  Keep a log of your grade in your Class Notebook and share with your teacher by 3 October.

6.  Daily Planner, Table of Contents and Supplies

You will need to organize and PLAN AND STAY ORGANIZED for your practice.
  • A paper or digital calendar with important dates should be with you at all times (in your binder, smart phone or laptop).  
  • I will post our checkpoints daily so that you are aware of what should be completed. 
  • Paper, pencils, materials, etc. should be brought each class day.   
  • A Table of Contents will be provided for each unit and completed at the beginning of each class period

The planner included in your binder the first week would be perfect. A printable simple weekly planner has been attached below for you to use if you would like to see other options or if you lose yours. 

PRACTICE:  Fill out your Planner for the day and show it to your teacher BEFORE you leave class EVERY DAY.

7.  Weekly Organization

Once a week you should:
  • Review your grades with an adult
  • Ask for help
  • Make plans to make up missing practice if needed
  • Coordinate with teachers in advance if you will be gone.

8. Google Classroom

Online Practice and Mastery Checks will be hosted in Google Classroom.
  • Join the classroom
  • Check in as needed, you will know when to check as it will be part of your directions. 
PRACTICE:  Login and Complete your first Google Classroom practice.

9. Technology Use

You will use technology to help you interact with content through different kinds of challenging activities that will help identify initial ideas, gain experiences with the content, come to new conclusions and compare these to scientifically appropriate understandings.  You will be gaining skills that will help them ask good questions, solve complex problems, and communicate their ideas with others. It has been approved that students may bring and use personal electronic devices to class to support mastery of material and then put away.

The goal of the classroom website, google classroom, etc. is to better communicate information, allow you a resource for practice in and outside of the classroom and inform all stakeholders about the classroom and learning that is occurring.

Device use should support learning while at school, be treated with care and follow all district and school guidelines.
